The Leader Often Becomes the Bottleneck

The Leader Often Becomes the Bottleneck

Many founders believe their team is the problem because team members wait for direction, avoid decisions, fail to take ownership, or repeatedly return work for approval.

Sometimes that diagnosis is correct.

Sometimes the team has been trained to behave that way.

When a leader overrides decisions, changes priorities without explanation, rescues people from consequences, withholds context, refuses to delegate authority, or becomes the answer to every question, the organization learns dependence.

The leader then complains about the dependency the leader helped create.

Solving this requires more than delegating tasks.

The leader must define decision rights, communicate the standard, allow appropriate ownership, establish review rhythms, and resist the urge to reclaim responsibility every time discomfort appears.

A team cannot mature beyond the environment its leader repeatedly creates.
